Why job shadowing in Spain

Observation weeks that actually change practice

Job shadowing works when the observation days are structured around clear learning outcomes and matched to a host with the time and appetite to explain their work. That is where most short mobilities fall down — a busy classroom or workshop cannot improvise a five-day agenda on the fly. Our coordinators pre-agree the daily focus with each host: Monday orientation, Tuesday-Thursday themed observation blocks, and Friday reflection with the visiting teacher writing up notes for their sending institution.

Spain is a strong destination for VET and teacher mobility because our secondary vocational training system (FP Grado Medio and Grado Superior) sits close to industry, especially in tourism, hospitality, mechatronics, health and early-childhood education. Andalusia, Madrid and the Basque Country have consolidated dual-training networks that welcome KA1 visitors and open real workshops, kitchens, hotels and clinics for observation. For teacher mobilities, our host schools include public bilingual institutes and private international schools in Málaga, Seville and Bilbao.

Groups of 6 to 20 students are our default size for VET mobility. We build a joint agenda so the group visits two or three complementary employers during the same week, alternating with cultural activities and reflection sessions. Accommodation options include host families for immersive weeks, aparthotels for autonomous groups, and student residences for older cohorts. All programmes end with a Europass Mobility document, an evaluation summary and a photo dissemination kit for your ECHE reporting or your Erasmus+ project blog.

How we build it

From first call to on-the-ground delivery

Job shadowing works when the daily agenda maps to concrete learning outcomes. Here is the timeline we typically run with sending institutions, from intake to closing report.

  1. Week 1

Intake call, group profile, budget alignment and preferred cities.

  2. Weeks 2-3

We build a draft agenda with host confirmations and share it for your review.

  3. Weeks 4-6

Contracts, invoices, insurance and accommodation booked; welcome pack sent.

  4. Mobility

In-country coordinator on call daily; mid-stay reflection and end-of-program evaluation.

FAQ

What coordinators ask before booking

How long is a typical job-shadowing visit?

Teacher mobilities under Erasmus+ KA1 usually run 5-10 working days. VET student groups stay 2-4 weeks so they can combine observation with hands-on practice inside the host workplace.

Who chooses the host school or company?

We do, based on your discipline, group profile and learning outcomes. You approve the shortlist before we confirm — no black-box matching.

Is the program eligible for Erasmus+ funding?

Yes. Job shadowing is a standard KA1 staff mobility activity and VET learner mobility is covered under KA1-VET. We issue Mobility Agreements, attendance sheets and Europass Mobility documents your National Agency requires.

Do you handle accommodation and transport?

On request. We book host families, aparthotels or shared flats and add city transport passes to the welcome pack. Flights stay with the sending institution to keep procurement rules simple.

Which cities can we visit?

Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Málaga and Bilbao have the deepest host network. We also run shadowing weeks in Granada, Zaragoza and the Balearic Islands for tourism and hospitality groups.
