U.S. States for Summer Work and Travel Program in the USA

We offer opportunities across the United States, but some states stand out as the most popular destinations for international students, interns, and trainees. Each state has its own career strengths, cultural highlights, and lifestyle benefits.

Note: For unpaid positions, participants must show proof of $900/month to cover living expenses. This requirement decreases if you receive a stipend.

Duration of the Program

  • Internship Program: 2–12 months
  • Trainee Program: 2–18 months
  • After your program ends, you’ll have a 30-day grace period to travel and explore the U.S.

Note: Extensions beyond the maximum duration are possible but involve an additional cost for the DS-2019 form.

Compensation & Benefits

The compensation depends on the company and field, but generally, it ranges from $500–$1500 per month.

  • Interns: At least $500/month for placements of 6 months and $1000/month for 12-month placements.

  • Trainees: Similar compensation, with additional benefits like housing or transportation.

Important: Remuneration varies by company, and some companies may assist with accommodation and transportation costs.

Accommodation & Living Costs

  • Accommodation: Many employers offer housing or can assist with finding affordable housing options. If not, Spain Internship provides advice on local options.
  • Living Costs: On average, you may need $200–$500/month for accommodation and $400/month for food and leisure.

Program Fees

  • Registration Fee: €300

  • Internship/Traineeship Program:

    • 2–6 months: €1,800

    • 7–12 months: €2,200

  • Insurance: $95/month

  • Transfer Fees: Varies based on your payment method

Not Included:

  • Visa Fees: $130 for the U.S. government embassy

  • SEVIS Fee: $35

  • Flights and other personal expenses

Insurance

The USA Government requires all J-1 visa holders to have health insurance during their stay. Spain Internship offers an insurance package that complies with U.S. Department of State requirements. The cost is $95/month.

  2. Skype interview – You will meet with our U.S. partner agency to discuss your preferences and skills.

  3. Resume & cover letter – We will help you craft documents that meet U.S. standards.

  4. Internship/traineeship proposal – After the interview, we’ll match you with a suitable placement.

  5. Final payment – Make the second payment after confirming your placement.

  6. J-1 visa application – We guide you through the visa application process and help you prepare for the embassy interview.

  7. Arrival & orientation – You’ll attend an orientation upon arrival and start your placement.

Cancellation & Refund Policy

  • Visa Denial: If your visa is denied, we will refund part of the program fee based on the terms of the visa sponsor.

  • Late Application: A €500 fee applies if your application is processed after the 30-day window before your intended start date.

  • Cancellations: If a placement is confirmed and cancelled afterwards, a €250 cancellation fee applies.

Frequently Asked Questions

All U.S. programs are managed through our dedicated platform Internships USA.

Interns can stay up to 12 months, while trainees can stay up to 18 months. Both programs offer a 30-day grace period for travel after the program ends.

Internships are for students or recent graduates (within 12 months). Traineeships are for professionals with a degree and work experience.

Some employers offer accommodation or housing assistance. If not, Spain Internship helps you find affordable housing options.

Interns and trainees receive stipends ranging from $500 to $1500 per month depending on the company and location.
